Course content

Our introduction to footwear sustainability course is aimed at anyone working within the footwear supply chain who needs to understand the key sustainability challenges facing the industry and how to tackle them. 

This wide-ranging course provides an insight into:

  • What sustainability is, and why it is important
  • Understanding supply chains
  • What an organisational carbon footprint is, and how it is calculated
  • What a product lifecycle assessment/carbon footprint is, how to carry out a study and where the data comes from
  • Understanding and reducing environmental impacts throughout the product lifecycle
  • A detailed review of the environmental considerations of leather and other bio-based materials
  • Current obligations under sustainability-related legislation, and what is coming
  • An introduction to restricted substances management
  • Testing and verifying the sustainability credentials of a product
